Liedakademie at the Liedfestival

The current year of the Heidelberger Frühling Liedakademie celebrates its graduation and climax at the same time as part of the Heidelberger Frühling Liedfestival. The festival audience can take part - also via livestream.

As part of the grand Opening of the Liedfestival, the baritone and artistic director of the Liedakademie Thomas Hampson performs together with the young scholarship holders on the open-air Song Stage. Professionals and amateurs, choirs and bands from Heidelberg and the region come together to present a colorful programme for all generations. Admission is free!

In the public master classes, Thomas Hampson and pianist Susan Manoff work with the young artists on musicality, technique and finding their own expressiveness. The audience can look over their shoulders and gain exciting insights into the artistic work behind the scenes. The public master classes on 11. and June 12 is broadcasted via livestream.

In his lecture, Thomas Hampson, who is also an expert on the cultural history of the Lied, will shed light on the significance and work of the festival focus composer Johannes Brahms for the Lied. In the listening session "Thomas' Playlist", Hampson dives into his personal playlist together with the audience and presents recordings of outstanding song interpreters from the last 100 years.

In the grand final concert, the stage once again belongs to the Liedakademie's young talents: the singers and pianists each present a Brahms setting from "Des Knaben Wunderhorn" as well as another Brahms song.
