Auditorium of the New University Heidelberg

Vis à vis to the Old University is the New University of Heidelberg, built in the 1930s. Its contemporary and businesslike architecture wraps itself in a U-shape around a landscaped courtyard, creating an oasis of calm in the middle of the old town. From there you can also see the Hexenturm, a part of the city fortifications from the 13th century, which was integrated as a connecting element between two sections of buildings. The Auditorium of the New University Heidelberg impresses with its spatial clarity and conceals a remarkable organ from Weigle behind the front wall. The hall is one of the main venues for Heidelberger Frühling, while the Stadthalle Heidelberg is undergoing extensive refurbishment. In the green courtyard, in the form of a glass orangery, is the Festival Center.
