The two volumes of "Das Wohntemperierte Klavier" are compositional milestones. Bach traverses all the keys here and really ignites everything that is contrapuntally possible in the prelude and fugue movement pair. The second part of the "WTK" in particular is very rarely heard in concert, because it requires an enormous effort even for piano-playing masterminds to play the work in its entirety with its stylistic diversity. Not so for the Finnish-Cuban pianist Anton Mejias: since his childhood he has continuously explored Bach's piano works and he has always understood "Das Wohntemperierte Klavier" as an inseparable masterpiece in its entirety. Mejias also has the gift of making the poetry inherent in each pair of movements resonate.
