Festival Finale
Benjamin Kruithof. Heidelberger Sinfoniker. Johannes Klumpp
Heavenly Length

Robert Schumann was full of praise for Felix Mendelssohn's "concert overtures, in which he squeezed the idea of the symphony into a smaller circle". With the Heidelberg Symphony Orchestra under Johannes Klumpp playing with agility and colorful sound, the Scottish forces of nature and Ossian's legendary world come to life musically in the Hebrides Overture. The orchestra is one of the leading historically-oriented orchestras of the present day, not least since its complete recording of all Haydn symphonies. They are joined by the Luxembourg cellist Benjamin Kruithof, who was recently named an ECHO "Rising Star" and now enters into a soulful dialog with Schumann's cello concerto jewel. The festival concludes with the highlight of the "Liberated Time"-theme - Schubert's Great C major Symphony, whose "Heavenly Length" Schumann once raved about.
