Cheng² Duo
Siblings' Bliss Squared

Cellist Bryan Cheng, already a re:start artist in 2022 and a member of the Festivalcampus-Ensemble in 2024, will be performing his own concert at the Heidelberger Frühling Musikfestival for the first time this year: He is bringing his sister, pianist Silvie Cheng, with him for this debut. Together they form the Cheng² Duo since 2011. However, the Canadian-Chinese siblings have actually been making music together since they were a lot younger. Bryan and Silvie also make the family bond the theme of their programme, for example by tracing the imaginary connection between the music of Shostakovich and the Georgian Sulkhan Tsintsadze. They juxtapose Beethoven's Duo Sonata in A major with a "sibling work" inspired by it, "A Portrait of the Imaginary Sibling", which they commissioned from the Canadian composer Dinuk Wijeratne.
