Igor Levit
New Horizons

Whenever he has explored new repertoire in recent years, it was usually the Heidelberg audience that Igor Levit first shared his adventures with. Extremely complex and physical works and cycles could be experienced there. The music world has been waiting a long time for the interpreter of the "big Bs" from Bach to Busoni to one day turn his attention to Chopin. And now - a real premiere! - two central works by the Polish Romantic composer fill the programme. Prokofiev's conciliatory last piano sonata may seem like a retrospective: on a long composer's life, but of course also on the cycle of piano concertos with which Levit can be heard in the first week of the festival.
