Manchester Collective
Different Trains

The string quartet of the groundbreakingly innovative London ensemble Manchester Collective undertakes a journey through time and memory that is as intoxicating as it is oppressive in the programme "Different Trains". The piece of the same name by Steve Reich spans the arc from the exciting and romantic train journeys of the growing American composer to the simultaneous transportation of Jews by train to the Nazi concentration camps. The String Quartet by Philip Glass, inspired by Samuel Beckett's novella "Company" and Samuel Barber's famous elegiac and poignant "Adagio" make the depths of the human emotional world audible.
