Soiree: Forellenquintett

Schubert's meditative, circular "Nachtstück" for piano trio opens a programme that makes you think about time and timelessness. Préludes and Debussy's violin sonata, Steve Reich's eight-part "Cello Counterpoint" (played here by the viola), as well as the playful, dance-like Schubert Variations by the 20-year-old Helmut Lachenmann, complement the ideas of the Viennese early Romantic composer, as expressed in selected songs. The programme concludes with two timeless masterpieces by Schubert: the seemingly free-flowing, calm and serene "Grand Rondeau" for piano four hands and his famous "Forellenquintett".
